What is a Rosacea Treatment?

Rosacea occurs in three different forms. Each form requires a different approach to treatment.

Erythematous rosacea:

Also known as “Mild Rosacea,” this condition is the flushing of the skin caused by factors such as heat, caffeine, and alcohol. To avoid the redness, patients avoid the known triggers. However, if the redness doesn’t resolve, laser photo rejuvenation treatments can help. These treatments target the blood vessels in your skin.

Another treatment for mild rosacea is a green-tinted moisturizer that cancels the redness and neutralizes the skin color.

Papulopustular rosacea:

Moderate rosacea, also known as papulopustular rosacea, is characterized by persistent redness regardless of triggers. In addition to the redness, patients can have small, red, pus-filled bumps in this condition. Treatments for this type of rosacea include topical creams, lotions, gels, washes, and oral antibiotics, which can reduce surface bacteria and decrease inflammation.

Phymatous rosacea:

With the most advanced type of rosacea, also known as Phymatous Rosacea, the most common treatment form is surgery. Some of the symptoms of this condition are enlarged oil glands, which cause a bulbous, red nose and puffy cheeks.

Get Started!

What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting rosacea treatment is to schedule an in-person visit with Dr. Mai Kaga or a member of our expert team of aesthetic specialits. During the consultation, Dr. Kaga will discuss your medical history, aesthetic goals, concerns, and expectations for the procedure. It is essential that you are transparent with any chronic conditions or concerns so that Dr. Kaga can arrive at the best possible treatment plan and avoid unnecessary risks.

She will then evaluate your skin condition and the target areas of concern. At the end of the consultation, you will receive a treatment recommendation and plan from Dr. Kaga, which you can then take to our patient coordinator to schedule your Rosacea Treatment appointment for a convenient time later.

What to Expect on the Day of a Rosacea Treatment

On the day of your rosacea treatment in Red Bank at the Kaga Academy of Aesthetics & Concierge Medicine, Dr. Kaga and her staff will receive you and get you settled in the treatment room. Then, your treatment plan will be discussed with you again to ensure alignment.

If you have mild rosacea, you will be guided through the process and expectations of a topical lotion or medicinal application, and you will be good to go.

If you have moderate rosacea and it is a laser photo rejuvenation, you will undergo the treatment, which will last around half an hour. You can leave the office right away, as there is no downtime.

If you have severe rosacea and the recommended treatment is electrosurgery, Dr Kaga will apply a weak electrical current directly to your blood vessels using a thin needle. This will cause your blood vessels to shrink and clot, forming scabs that will fall off in a few days.

Rosacea Treatment Recovery

Your recovery time will vary depending on the treatment you and Dr. Kaga choose. Also, various patients have different reactions to the treatments chosen, given their personal health conditions.

Most treatments have no downtime and little to no recovery. In minor instances, there can be a reaction to the medication or sensitivity, but it should subside quickly as well. To help with healing, you can try icing and gentle skin care. You should also wear SPF on your face when you’re outside to prevent burns.
